World boxing champion, Aoife O’Rourke, is one of 12 nominees in with a chance of taking home this year’s prestigious RTÉ Sportsperson of the Year.

The Castlerea native — who won a gold medal in the 75kg division at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool last September — has been nominated alongside World Road Race bronze medalist Ben Healy; Footballer of the Year David Clifford; World Singles Skulls champion Fiona Murtagh; Republic of Ireland women’s soccer player and Champions League winner Katie McCabe; World Heptathlon silver medal winner Kate O’Connor; Euro Track Cycling gold medal winner Lara Gillespie; World Para Athletics Championships double gold medal winner Orla Comerford; Masters, Players and Irish Open champion Rory McIlroy; three-time medallist at the World Para Swimming Championships, Roisín Ní Riain; European Indoor Championships gold medal winner Sarah Healy and Republic of Ireland men’s soccer player and Budapest hat-trick hero, Troy Parrott.

The awards will be broadcast live on Saturday, December 20th, on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player at 8.05 p.m..

Joanne Cantwell, Darragh Maloney and David Gillick will present the awards, which include RTÉ Sport Sportsperson of the Year, RTÉ Sport Team of the Year, RTÉ Sport Manager of the Year and RTÉ Sport Young Sportsperson of the Year.
