Aoife O’Rourke will face a familiar opponent in the last 16 of the Olympic Games in Paris.

This evening’s draw in the 75kg division paired the Castlerea boxer with Elzbieta Wojcik from Poland, the boxer she beat to win her first European boxing title in 2019.

O’Rourke also got the better of Wojcik in the semi-finals of the European Games in June 2023, which confirmed her qualification for her second Olympic Games.

The bout is scheduled to take place on Wednesday evening next, July 31st, at 8.52 p.m. (Irish time).

If O’Rourke, who has been seeded second, overcomes Wojcik, she is scheduled to face either Bibeichi Atheyna Bylon from Panama or Valentina Khalzova from Kazakhstan in the quarter-final, with the winner of that fight guaranteed at least a bronze medal.
