A County Roscommon man has helped an Irish team become European champions this afternoon.
Niall Sweeney, a native of Cootehall in North Roscommon, was part of the Ireland men's A team that saw off Malta in this afternoon’s decider in Killarney.
After a mixed bag of results earlier in the tournament, Sweeney and his team-mates turned things around spectacularly to see off defending champions France (9-6) and Wales (8-7) before beating England (8-2) in the semi-final.
Then, this afternoon, another clinical display of potting earned the Irish a 8-4 victory against Malta as they were crowned European 8-ball pool champions.
