County Roscommon girl to compete in major international tournament

Maryam McCabe has helped Shelbourne to qualify for the Barcelona Cup in June.
A young rising soccer star from South Roscommon is continuing to make a name for herself.
Taughmaconnell teenager, Maryam McCabe, was snapped up by Shelbourne FC last year and has gone from strength to strength since then.
Representing the Roscommon District Youth Soccer League (RDYSL) in the Galway Cup, Maryam came up against Shelbourne. After an strong showing, the Dublin club invited Maryam for a trial before deciding to include her in its youth set-up.
The Coláiste Chiaráin, Athlone, student subsequently helped the Shelbourne U-13 side win the Winter Futsal tournament less than three weeks ago. The talented midfielder finished the competition as the top goal scorer.
Maryam has also helped Shelbourne to qualify for the Barcelona Cup in June, which is regarded as one of the top underage soccer tournaments in the world. Approximately 80 teams from ten countries will participate in the competition.
The tournament will be played at a venue with eight full-size pitches — four high-quality natural grass (two hybrid fields) and four latest generation artificial grass fields.
Shelbourne and Maryam will line out against one of the biggest names in world football, FC Barcelona. The Spanish outfit are the reigning champions after they defeated Shelbourne on route to winning the crown last year.
Shelbourne will also play against Japanese side, Malva, and RFS from Latvia in the group stage of the competition.
The tournament will be held between June 7th and 8th.
