A County Roscommon woman is one of five Athlone Town players to make the PFA Ireland Women’s Premier Division Team of the Year.

South Roscommon native Kayleigh Shine from Taylorstown, Drum, has enjoyed a stellar season with the Midlands club, and has been deservedly picked in defence on the star-studded team.

Her Athlone Town team-mates Megan Plaschko, Hannah Waesch, Kelly Brady and Madie Gibson have also made the team.

Shine, a former player with Bealnamulla LFC and underage footballer with the Roscommon minor ladies’ footballer, played a major role in helping Athlone Town complete the league and cup double.

The club also broke new ground in Europe this year by making it to the second round of Champions League qualifying, before dropping into the Europa Cup.

Shine, who earned her 100th cap for Athlone Town earlier this year, has also been capped for the Republic of Ireland at underage level.
