League of Ireland community rallies around John Caulfield following death of his mother

The mother of well-known and popular League of Ireland manager, John Caulfield, has passed away in County Roscommon.

Caulfield, a native of Lecarrow, has enjoyed successful stints with Galway United and Cork City.

On Wednesday, Galway United said in a statement that it was “deeply saddened” to learn of the untimely passing of Nora Caulfield, beloved mother of senior men’s manager, John Caulfield.

“During this difficult time, our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with John, his family, and all who knew and loved Nora. We hope they find strength and comfort in the support of their loved ones, and the wider Galway United and League of Ireland community,” said the statement.

Cork City FC — where Caulfield made over 450 appearances as a player — said that: “Everyone at Cork City FC is saddened to learn of the passing of Nora Caulfield, mother of former player, manager and club legend, John Caulfield.

“Our thoughts are with the Caulfield family at this difficult time.”

The late Nora Caulfield passed away peacefully in the loving care of the staff at the Sacred Heart Home, Roscommon, on February 19th.

Much loved wife of John and adored mother to John (Enniskeane) and Daniel (USA), she will be very sadly missed by her family, brothers Batt, Donie and Jeff, daughters-in-law Gráinne and Jackie, grandchildren Aideen, Sinéad and Ellie, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Nora is predeceased by her brothers Liam, Tadhg and Paudie.

Reposing at Smyth’s Funeral Home, Roscommon (F42 NH27) on Thursday evening from 7 p.m. until 8.30 p.m..

Removal from her home on Friday morning at 10.30 a.m. arriving to St. Patrick’s Church, Knockcroghery, for Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m.. Burial afterwards in Gailey Cemetery.
