The Roscommon and District Youth and Schoolboys/girls League U-12 girls’ team that defeated Kerry in their SFAI Interleague final in Kilkenny.

The Roscommon and District Youth and Schoolboys/girls League U-12 girls’ team broke new ground by beating Kerry in their SFAI Interleague final in Kilkenny.

The match ebbed and flowed. Both defences were resolute, and the game finished 0-0 at full-time. A penalty save by goalkeeper Evie Watson had kept Roscommon in the match.

Extra time, which was played in searing heat, saw both teams continue to cancel each other out.

The dreaded penalties followed. Roscommon scored four out of their five penalties. Goalkeeper Evie Watson saved two penalties, meaning Roscommon were victorious 4-3. 

Evie Watson picked up the Player of the Match award.

The whole Roscommon team, which included representatives from soccer clubs around the county, deserve credit for their dedication, hard work and training. Credit must also go to the coaches for all their time and effort in hail, rain or shine across the season.

The Roscommon team, which were a credit to the county, had plenty of vocal support to witness this historic success.
