Swimmer with County Roscommon connections secures European medal
Aindriú Lynam won a silver medal in the 3KM Open Water event for the 20-24 age category at the 2026 European Aquatics Masters Championships.
There was cause for celebration in South Roscommon recently as Aindriú Lynam claimed a European medal.
Aindriú won a silver medal at the 2026 European Aquatics Masters Championships in the 3K Open Water swim.
The 21-year-old possesses strong connections to Monksland. His mother, Catherine, hails from the area, while his grandparents John (RIP) and Breda Lafferty moved to Monksland over 60 years ago.
Aindriú’s father Fergal comes from Beech Park in Athlone. The family currently lives in Mount Temple.
Aindriú won the National 10K Open Water Championships back in July, on the same day he turned 21 years of age. The competition was held in Lough Key Forest Park.
His brother Eoin, who turned 19 last Sunday, is a talented swimmer, while younger sister Saoirse (14) swims at a national level.
Aindriú is an engineering student in UL and currently trains in the college’s facilities. He started swimming in the pool before migrating to the open water. He competes in togs, which is significantly tougher than wearing a swimsuit as the body is more exposed to the elements.
