Glinsk GAA Club are hosting the inaugural ‘Great Glinsk Run’ on Sunday, July 20th at 11 a.m. to raise funds for the continued development at the community centre complex.

Following on from its 'My Lovely Bull' viral success, the local community has made a hilarious parody of Forrest Gump.

The club is encouraging walkers and runners of all abilities, young and old alike to enter the Great Glinsk run 2025.

There are a variety of routes to choose from, including a 10km race, a 5km fun run/walk and a 1km fun run/walk.

Runners will pass Glinsk Castle, the last ever castle constructed in Ireland, on the 10km run and nearby attractions such as Ballinakill Abbey and the Glinsk Heritage Park are also worth a visit.

A number of other activities will be taking place on the day for the whole family including face painting, treats, special guests, music food trucks and presentations in what promises to be a festival atmosphere.

An afterparty will take place in the Glencastle Bar and Lounge with live music on offer.

Since 2022 various clubs and committees in Glinsk have combined their work and have raised €360,000. This money along with grant aid and generous donations have overseen the completion of a footpath linking the village to the community centre, a floodlit walk around the GAA pitch, new spectator fencing, ball stop nets, a state of the art community gym, an all inclusive community playground and an after school facility.

The next phase of development, hoped to be completed by the end of this year, is a new 140 space car park, installation of a 90kVA generator and a waste water treatment facility.

The estimated cost of these expanded works is €600,000. The inaugural Great Glinsk Run aims to contribute funds towards these projects.

Entry to the run is €20 for adults, and €10 for U-16s. Registration is online.

Support can also be made by sponsoring a mile marker sign for €100 by contacting any committee member.
