Congratulations to Callum Higgins, recipient of the Transition Year (TY- B) Student of the Year Award at the recent celebration to mark the graduation of the TY Class of 2024 at Elphin Community College.
The death occurred on May 20th, peacefully, in care of the staff at UCH Galway, surrounded by her family, of Mrs Annette Costello (nee Hagan), Karol Avenue, Elphin and late of Drinagh, Scramogue. Much loved mother of Claire and Seán. Annette will be very sadly missed and fondly remembered by her loving daughter, Claire; son, Seán and their father Michael; brother, Jerry; sisters, Dympna Condon, Bernie Browne, Eithne McFarlane and Rita Bennett; Claire’s partner, Oli; sister-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbours and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Annie T. and John Joe Hagan and her nephew Jerry. Following Funeral Mass on Friday in St. Celilia’s Church, Curraghroe, Annette was laid to rest in Cloontuskert Cemetery.
The death has occurred of Mr Paul Ferrie, Elphin, Roscommon and Stafford, England. He was son of the late Delia Catherine Beirne, formerly Kilmacumsey, Elphin, and nephew of Sean, Pat, Tom and Margaret Beirne. Paul spent many happy summer holidays as a youngster on the family farm in Kilmacumsey. Paul passed away at his home on April 12th, aged 70. Paul was a local ukelele musician, in Stafford, and avid music collector, also a George Formby memorabilia collector. He was a brilliant dancer in his Wigan Casino days. Brother to John, Margaret and Catherine, and son of the late Ernest and Cath Ferrie (of the Hop Pole, Stafford). Fondly remembered by family and friends. Paul's funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 22nd at Stafford Crematorium, England.
Elphin is entering an U-12 Community Games team for outdoor soccer and has been drawn to play Strokestown by May 31st. The committee is trying to get a panel together and plan to have two trainings before the fixture.

Windmill Wheelers Sportive will take place on June 9th. This initiative is part of this year's Leisure Series events, designed to inspire cyclists of all skill levels to hop on their bikes and embark on a journey to explore the province on two wheels in the upcoming months. Traditional music, song and dance sessions continue every Tuesday starting at 8 p.m. in the Tower Inn. Everyone is very welcome. Thank you to everyone who attended this month's singing session. Next singing session will be on Sunday, June 2nd at 8.30 pm.

The Roscommon Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) will be holding its annual church cate collection at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Kilmaryal on Saturday, June 1st June. This collection is a great opportunity to raise much needed funds for animal welfare work and also to raise awareness of the RSPCA’ mission and vision.
