A horticulturist and landscape architect with Ardcarne Garden Centre in Boyle was awarded Silver-Gilt for his Plant Collector’s Balcony Garden at Bloom last weekend. Tom Bradford moved with his family from London to Boyle four years ago. His Plant Collector’s Garden showcased a space where people and wildlife co-exist happily within a peaceful, biodiverse ecosystem.
A special coffee morning fundraiser will take place in Killaraght Community Centre (F52YX23) on Sunday, June 7th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in support of the FTD Brothers, Jordan and Cian Adams. Jordan and Cian recently completed the incredible challenge of running 32 marathons in 32 days around Ireland, finishing on Thursday, May 28th to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland and the FTD Foundation. The event will include tea, coffee, homemade treats and a chance for the community to come together and support a very worthwhile cause Everyone is very welcome and any support would be greatly appreciated.

Dementia Alliance hosts a monthly café at Lough Key Forest Park to help support people affected by dementia, their families and carers. This month’s café takes place on Wednesday, June 17th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will include music, song, advice and a chat. Boyle Family Resource Centre and Boyle Film Club present the critically acclaimed film, ‘Io Capitano’ on Friday, June 19th in King House at 6.45 p.m.. Io Capitano is a modern day odyssey that traces the perilous journey of two teenage cousins, Seydou and Moussa, as they leave Dakar, Senegal, in pursuit of a brighter future in Europe. It takes courage to leave home and seek safety, and it also takes compassion and openness to welcome others. Conversational English classes continue at Boyle Family Resource Centre on Fridays from 10.30 a.m.- 12.30 p.m..
Last Thursday at Connect Café at the Boyle Family Resource Centre everyone in the mood for the weekend with a fun festival-themed morning full of laughter, music, and great company. The morning included the festival photo frame and a lively game of bingo. A huge thank you to everyone who joined in and helped make the morning so memorable. The next Connect Café date is Thursday, June 25th.
This year’s President’s Prize takes place this weekend. It is an historic one in that the club has a female president of the overall club for the first time, Regina McLoughlin. The club moved from having separate men and lady presidents three years ago to having a single club president and Regina is the first lady to take this new role. Both the President’s Prizes to the men and ladies will take place on the same weekend and with presentation of prizes immediately after the conclusion of the 9 Hole playoff of the men’s competition on the Sunday evening.
