Sad news as Elphin resident Robert Pether who was due to be released from an Iraqi prison is now facing up to 15 more years in jail. A gofundme page has been set up to help the family with legal costs. Donations can be made by logging onto https://gofund.me/c636f07b.

The road sweeper from Wills Bros has been up and down Elphin’s Main and surrounding area street ad infinitum . It is only now that the weather has picked up that all can see the fruits of their labour. The footpath with all the storm debris, leaves, broken branches etc has been removed by Gerry, Joe, Colm et.al , alongside Elphin Tidy Towns they are working tirelessly with brushes, leaf blowers and pure grit.

There was a great session last Tuesday and the singers night was fantastic with a few new singers who said that they will return. The trád sessions in the Tower Inn, Elphin are back in full swing after the recent bad weather and it is hoped that there will be a good attendance going forward to sustain this local event, which is part of the heritage and a very welcoming one at that. The next Singers Night in The Tower Inn is on February 23rd ( the last Sunday of the month) at 8 p.m.. All singers and listeners will be made very welcome and all genre of singing will be catered for, so come along and enjoy a fantastic night of entertainment.

Elphin Community Centre was a welcome refuge for many without power, heat or water following Storm Eowyn and is one of the designated community hubs overseen by Roscommon County Council. A support co-ordinator form ALONE will visit the Community Centre, Roosky on Tuesday, February 25th at 11.45 a.m. to give a talk on supports they offer to older people. ALONE is a national organisation that works to enable older people to age at home, safely and securely for as long as they wish. The organisation works with all older people, including those who are lonely, isolated, frail, or ill, homeless, living in poverty, or are facing other difficulties. The death occurred recently at Shannon Lodge Nursing Home, Roosky of Mrs Bridie Hanley (nee Gannon), Knockhall, Roosky. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael, and will be sadly missed by her son, Kevin; daughters, Geraldine and Angela; brother-in-law, Pete, relatives, neighbours and friends. May she rest in peace.
