The semi-finals of the primary schools’ basketball takes place over the next two weeks at the Hub. First up are Cloonboniffe in the two teacher on Wednesday 22nd. There is no local interest on Thursday 23rd or Friday 24th. On Wednesday 29th St Paul's BNS, Carrick girls are boys and Frenchpark girls are all involved. Finally St. Anne's girls and Ballinagare boys will be in action on Thursday 30th. The finals will be held at the Hub on May 12th, 13th and 14th.
Congratulations are extended to Castlerea Goodwill Ambassador John Kennedy who celebrated his 65th birthday with fellow service users, staff, family and many friends at Henley House, Ballinlough, on Thursday last. His great friends Liam Reynolds, who took some photos, and Danny Burke, who rendered a song or two, were also present. The staff made everyone so welcome and provided tea, coffee and cake for all present and of course there would be no party without a cake. There was great excitement when John blew out the candles with all singing happy birthday. John would like to thank the staff at Henley House, his fellow service users, all who sent him good wishes and presents and his cousin assembly man Mr. Thomas P. Giblin, USA, who also sent him greetings.
An indoor market will be held in the Enterprise Hub on Saturday, May 2nd and on the first Saturday of each month, Contact Helen 086 3081178 or Anne 086 3507490 for more details. Food stalls wanted.

The Castlerea Lourdes Deanery Committee will be out and about in the coming weeks raising much needed funds for this year’s pilgrimage to Lourdes, which takes place from August 28th to September 2nd. This year 35 assisted pilgrims will make the trip from the Diocese of Elphin and Achonry. The cost of each assisted pilgrim will be €900. Support for the fundraising would be appreciated. Castlerea St. Kevin’s minor team drew with Kilbride in the league game played at O’Rourke Park on Wednesday, April 14th. The final score Castlerea St. Kevin’s 0-14 – Kilbride 2-8. This was a fine game of football by two very committed teams and a draw was a fair result. This was Castlerea’s third game in a row, having defeated Michael Glavey’s/Eire Og and Strokestown in their first two games. Team: Cian Bruen, Calum Walsh, Conor Larkin, Aaron Egan, Eddie Finneran, Cian Fitzmaurice, T. Donlon, Dara Curran, Sean Vaughan, Rory Hawkshaw, Oisin Fleming, Sean Donlon, Tylar Waldron, Jack Dolan, Evan Kelly. Sub used Diarmuid Fleming. The Castlerea St. Kevin’s Minor Club would like to extend thanks to Anthony and Eoghan Cahill of SuperValu, Castlerea, for their kind presentation of a set of jerseys to the boys’ minor football team. Over the years Anthony has been a good sponsor of the club as well as the schools in the parish. The club would like to extend congratulations to Anthony’s sons Eoghan and Ronan on winning the Connacht Junior Cup with Creggs Rugby Club recently.
The Castlerea Community School First Year boys’ team defeated Gortnorabbey Community College in the quarter-final of the 13 a side Division (D) Connacht Colleges Championship at Swinford on Tuesday, April 14th on the score of 10-16 to 4-6. This was a fine game of football with both teams giving it everything and taking some fine scores. This was a great performance by Castlerea with all sixteen players used playing their part. Team manger Richie Britten. They will play the semi-final on Tuesday, April 28th.

The winning bonus ball number in Castlerea Golf Club’s lotto for April 8th was 32 . Winners were Seamus & Nicola Connell, Tony Reilly, Gerry O’Keeffe, Padraic Moran, and Dermot Lyons. The winning bonus ball number for April 15th was 44. Winners of were Bernie O’Farrell, Pamela Sharkey, Padraic Henry, Tony Madden, and Mary O’Connell. Each receive €100.
