STROKESTOWN

GREAT MORNING AT PARKRUN 

It was a great morning at Strokestown Park on Saturday last as parkrunners took part in the 229th event and ultra marathoners headed off on their epic run of 165km on the National Famine Way. Local man Ed Payne was in the mix , a super athlete. Parkrun had 52 participants comprised of first timers, parkrun tourists and the usual regular participants. Lots of parkruns were represented from, Limerick to Belfast, Dublin to Longford. Two young runners came in first in both male and female categories. Well done to Jack Carley from Dublin and Roxy Moylan from Tulsk. Congrats to Roxy who was celebrating her 50th parkrun and she did so in style with a personal best. Roxy was accompanied by familyand friends with a great buzz in the lovely Woodland Cafe after the event. Parkrun continues every Saturday at 9.30 a.m. in Strokestown Park, do come along & give it a try. It is a wonderful start to the weekend, getting your exercise in a lovely healthy environment. PILGRIMAGE TO LOUGH DERG 

A one day pilgrimage to Lough Derg takes place on Sunday, August 24th. The bus leaves Lanesboro at 7 a.m. It travels via Scramogue, Roosky, Carrick-on-Shannon and Boyle. Enquiries to Mary at 043 3321969.

SCDA FORTNIGHTLY DRAW 

The results of the SCDA fortnightly draw held on July 22nd: numbers drawn - 4, 16, 17, 21. One Match Three winner- Gerry Farrell, Roscommon. Next draw is on Tuesday, August 5th at the SCDA office. Thank you for your continued support.

CEMETERY MASS 

Mass in Strokestown Cemetery on Sunday, August 3rd is at 11.30 a.m.. The annual collection for the upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery will be taken up on the day.

LATE MR PADRAIG KENNEDY 

The death took place recently at Roscommon Hospice of Mr Padraig Kenny of Creta, Elphin, in the Parish of Strokestown. A native of Mahanaagh, Drummullin, Elphin, he was son of the late Mr John Kennedy and of the late Mrs Bridget Kennedy (nee Hanly), and a member of a family with deep roots in the County. He was a prominent member of the farming community and was a member of several farming organisations. He divided his time between his farm at Creta and property in Roscommon Town. He was a former member of Strokestown Dramatic and Musical Society and participated in many of its productions over the years. He was predeceased by his sisters, Anita, Margaret and Kathleen, and brothers, Sean, Des, Vincent and Jimmy. News of his passing was heard of with deep regret among his relatives, neighbours and close friends. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at Kiltrustan Church and the interment followed in Kiltrustan Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (nee Rafferty); sons, David and Paul; daughters, Fiona and Joanne; 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brothers, Mark (Castlerea) and Kenneth (Croghan), daughters-in-law, Annette and Laura, sons-in-law, John and Marcus, nephews, nieces, sisters-in-law, and other relatives to whom deepest sympathy is extended.

PROGRESSIVE 25 

Progressive 25 continues in Kilglass GAA Centre on Tuesdays at 9 p.m.. Last week's winners were: joint 1st Sean Mulligan & Oliver Compton; 2nd, Eileen Diamond; raffle, Gerry Conlon. New players welcome.

KILGLASS GAELS LOTTO 

In the Kilglass Gaels Lotto held on July 19th, the numbers drawn were: 14, 15, 24, 25 Bonus No 20. There was no jackpot winner: There was one Match 3 number winner, €200 Nellie Gormley. Next jackpot €6,400 for four correct numbers, €10,400 for four correct numbers plus Bonus Number. Next draw takes place in the clubrooms on Saturday, August 3rd.

BALLINAMORE FESTIVAL ROAD RACES 

The 15th Ballinamore Festival Open 5K and 10K Road Races take place on Sunday, August 10th at 1 p.m.with race headquarters in the Island theatre and the new approved course on the adjacent Aughnasheelin Road. Entries should be made through Eventmaster before 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 9th. This year to mark the club's 60th anniversary there are specially commissioned snoods for the first 100 entered. There will also be a 1500m for U-10, U-12 and U-14 with entries at the Island theatre before 12.3 p.m. on the day.

KILGLASS GAELS LADIES 

 This week's Kilglass Ladies Bonus Ball number was 45. Winners Majella Mc Clean & Francie Conboy, €50 each.

YOGA CLASSES 

Chair yoga classes at 12 midday on Thursdays at Roosky Community Centre. Women's health classes on the mat continue at 7 p.m. on Thursdays. These are gentle slow paced classes suitable for all ages. A new class on Thursdays at 8.15 p.m.. This is a stronger practice suitable for women and men and is focused on building strength and improving your fitness level.
