The Western Gaels GAA annual Table Quiz takes place on Saturday, April 11th next at 7.30 p.m. in Tibohine Community Centre. The event is a popular, high-demand, sell-out night featuring music and a full bar. It costs €40 for a team of four, with registration available via ClubSpot.
Roscommon Dementia Alliance hosts a monthly café in Lough Key Forest Park, Boyle to help support people affected by dementia, their families and carers. This month's café takes place on Wednesday, April 15th from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will include music, song, advice and a chat. On Saturday, April 18th next, the Frenchpark Tidy Towns team will hold its Clean-up Day. It will be held from 9 a.m. to 12noon (three hours), meeting up at the picnic benches out on the Tulsk Road (N5) at 9 a.m.. The group would love to have people join in in taking care of community spaces. No sign-up required. Just turn up on the day. If you have gloves and a hi-vis please bring them, but don’t worry if you don’t.
The death has taken peacefully at her home of Mrs Bridget (BT) Naughton, Ballinvoher, Frenchpark. In her 102nd year, the late Mrs Naughton (née Lowe) was predeceased by her husband Thomas in 2011, infant daughter Margaret Josephine, grand-daughter, Sandra and son-in-law, P.J. Conway. She is survived by her loving family, her son, Tommy, daughters, Mary, Una (Fairymount), Rosaleen and Assumpta, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sons-in-law, Tommy Cryan and Tommy O’Loughlin, daughter-in-law Ann, relatives, neighbours and friends. Her remains were removed from the Sharkey Funeral Home, Frenchpark to St. Brigid's Church, Breedogue on Sunday, April 5th last. Following Requiem Mass on Easter Monday, burial took place in Kilnamanagh Cemetery.
The peaceful death occurred of Ms Bridie Brys Hanley, Tobracken, Ballaghaderreen on Saturday, March 29th last at Roscommon Hospice. Mother of Stephanie Collins, Moyne, Fairymount. Predeceased by her father, Andrew, and her mother Mary Joe in 2015, Bridie (69) will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her daughters, Grazyna (Drury) and Stephanie, their father Mirek, grandchildren, sons-in-law Conor and Tommy, extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends. Her remains were removed on to St. Nathy’s Cathedral, Ballaghaderreen on Wednesday, April 1st for Mass of the Resurrection, followed afterwards by a private cremation.
Pray for the repose of the souls of Mr Paul Cassidy, The Demesne, Loughglynn; Mr Aidan McHugh, Tullamore and Strokestown; Mr Patrick Morley, Ardcul, Brusna and Mr Malachy Hanley, Castlemore, Ballaghaderreen. May they rest in peace.
‘Rise & Shine’ (formerly known as Irish Pilgrimage Trust) wish to thank the two church areas who contributed so generously towards their recent church gate collections. Amounts received were Ballinameen - €122-72 and Breedogue €95-44. Many thanks also to those who took up the collections.

Last week was Holy Week, the most important in the Christian calendar. There were large attendances at each of the religious services that took place in the parish in Killina, Kilmurry and Tulsk churches. Well done to the Tulsk choir, led by Claire Feeley who as always greatly added to the celebrations over the period. Well done also to Fr. John Gannon Parish Priest and Fr. Liam Devine who led the respective celebrations.
Preparations are well underway in Tulsk for a milestone weekend of celebrations to mark the official opening of the new playing facility and walkway. ‘The Tulsk Hooley’ will take place from Friday, May 29th to Monday, June 1st (the June Bank Holiday Weekend) which promises to be a weekend to remember. Underage blitzes, legends matches, team reunions, official opening ceremony and a grand finale are just some of the highlights planned. Evening entertainment will be hosted in a marquee in the village. Members of Tulsk GAA are inviting friends and supporters near and far to join in the celebrations and reconnect with former clubmates and old friends. Tulsk Society’s AGM will be held in Tulsk Macra Hall on Thursday, April 10th at 8pm. Among the projects completed during the past year were surveys of Baslick, Toberelva and Killina cemeteries, the publication of the book, 'Tulsk Remembers the Great Famine 1845-1849 'and the placing of Famine memorial stones in Tulsk and Baslick cemeteries. Over the coming year, Rathmoyle Cemetery will be surveyed, and the society’s publications will feature information from the 1926 Census. Following the meeting, there will be a live presentation of the society’s website, www.tulskhs.com. It will include a step-by-step guide on how to navigate the site’s content as well as showcasing the wealth of Tulsk historical material stored on the website. Those interested in the local history of the Tulsk, Killina and Castleplunkett/Kilmurry districts are welcome to attend.
Tulsk’s footballers enjoyed a fine four-point victory over Roscommon Gaels in their latest O’Rourke Cup fixture at the weekend. This was a fine victory for the team and it creates some momentum for the team ahead of further league and championship encounters.
Congratulations are extended to Ryan Larkin, the winner of the Gerry Galvin Memorial Cup POOL Final for 2025, the final of which took place on Good Friday last in Dec’s Bar, Castleplunkett. Commiserations to runner-up Callum Hanly who was a gallant runner-up. Well done to both players on providing spectators with a cracker of a final. The organisers of the tournament would like to thank Dec Conboy and staff for hosting this very noteworthy competition, which has been running since 1998, in honour of the late Gerry Galvin who was a very competent pool and snooker player and whose untimely death occurred when he was a mere 28 years of age. The Galvin family, Ryan, Padraig and Tina are very appreciative of the support received for this competition - from both participants and spectators alike. The family extends a special thank you to John Larkin the tournament director for all his hard work behind the scenes.
The death has occurred of Mr James (Seamus) Roddy, formerly of Clooneyogan, Tulsk and late of Bolton, the United Kingdom, surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Margaret, his brother Michael, and his brothers-in-law Peter McDonagh and Patrick Kelly, the deceased is survived by his wife, Liz; son, Seán; his daughter, Charlotte and her family; his sisters, Mary, Christina (Martin Keane), Eileen (Frank Cunniffe), and Carmel; his sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law, aunt, cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbours. and friends. The deceased’s funeral will take place in the UK at a later date.
Congratulations to Clooneyquin Killina National School student Áine Moore who represented both her school and St. Coman’s Swimming Club at the Irish Minor Schools' Championships at the NAC in Dublin recently. This was an outstanding achievement for Áine and no doubt the first of many such accolades for this talented young lady.
Residents of Chestnut Grove held their Annual General Meeting in the Macra Hall, Tulsk last week. Residents discussed a wide range of items, including efforts to have the estate taken in charge by the local authority. The following officers were re-elected to their respective roles, namely chairman, Darragh Kelly, secretarym Mary Donoghue and treasurers, Colin McKiernan and Simon Johnson. Residents would like to acknowledge the presence of both Cllrs Liam Callaghan and Sean Moylan at the meeting and thank them for their ongoing representations. A clean-up has been organised for the area, at a time to be confirmed next week, in conjunction with National Spring Clean Week. Contributions for the annual programme of grass cutting are now invited and can be paid in advance via electronic transfer by arrangement with a member of the committee or in person to Darragh Kelly, committee chairperson or any of the aforementioned committee.
Tulsk National School Parents Association would like to thank the local community for their support of the bake sale which took place in the gym of Tulsk National School on Easter Sunday, following 11.30 a.m. Mass. The event was organised by the school’s Trocaire Lenten Ambassadors and all proceeds will go to their Rwandan Appeal Fund.
Tulsk Camogie Club would like to thank members of the local community for their generous support of the church gate collection at Tulsk, Killina and Kilmurray Masses over the Easter Weekend. All proceeds raised will go to the continued training and development of their players.
The Roscommon Holy Wells exhibition continues at Rathcroghan Visitor Centre. The companion book by author Tamlyn McHugh is still available in the centre’s bookshop.
The Roscommon Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Roscommon SPCA) will be holding its annual church gate collection at the following churches over the weekend of April 11th & 12th: St. Attracta's Church, Ballinameen on Saturday, April 11th; St. Eithne & Fildelma's Church, Tulsk on Sunday, April 12th; St. Paul's Church, Kilmurry on Sunday, April 12th. Roscommon SPCA Charity is run by a team of dedicated volunteers with all money donated going directly towards animal welfare in the county.
