The Cornerstone Frenchpark will host a Tea Day on Friday, May 8th, at 11 a.m. to raise funds for Alzheimer’s. It’s a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community for a cup of tea and a donation toward this vital charity. In addition to the tea morning, there will be a raffle with tickets available for €5. There are some generous prizes up for grabs, such as a two-night stay at the Powerscourt Hotel Resort Spa and a €100 voucher for Peter Mark.
Western Gaels held its weekly lottery draw on Saturday, May 2nd last. There was no jackpot winner. The numbers drawn were 28, 31, 32 and 34. Cash prize winners (€20 each) were James/Abie Beirne, Garry/Margaret Cafferky, Noel Cunningham, Cara Higgins and Eamonn Mitchell. The next draw (jackpot €3,500) will take place at the clubhouse in Frenchpark on this Saturday, May 9th. Tickets are available on-line through the Clubforce app or from local outlets.

Ballinagare and Tully Defibrillator Group is delighted to announce the recent upgrade of the defibrillator at Ballinagare Church, which will be installed shortly. The group also wish to upgrade the defibrillator in Tully. All donations will be accepted by either James Finnerty or Eleanor Caulfield.

The death occurred peacefully, after a short illness, of Mr Noel Moore, Dunmore, County Galway and late of Lisdrumneil, Fairymount on Thursday, April 30th last at the Galway Hospice. Noel will be sadly missed by his loving family, wife, Trish; sons, Logan and Remy; brother, Ted; father-in-law, Paul; mother-in-law, Marion; extended family, relatives and a wide circle of friends Following Funeral Mass on Monday, May 4th in The Church Of Our Lady & St. Nicholas, Dunmore, burial took place in Dunmore Cemetery.
Pray for the repose of the souls of Mrs Mary Sharkey, Circular Road, Ballaghaderreen & Dring, County Longford; Mrs Mary Waldron, Urlaur, County Mayo; Mrs Doreen Murphy, Knockroe, Castlerea; Mr Noel Moran, Drumsna, County Leitrim and Mr Gordon Snell, Dalkey, Dublin. May they rest in peace.

Tulsk Community Games would like to thank all participants, their parents and those who assisted in the organisation of the annual sports day which took place at the Tulsk GAA grounds yesterday (Bank Holiday Monday). Featured on the day were track races, novelty races and a range of field events. The day is always a sporting and social highlight in the local community and this year’s event was no exception.
The sympathies of the local community are extended to the family and friends of the late Mrs Anne (Babs) Finnerty (nee Flanagan), late of Main Street, Elphin and formerly of Clooneyquinn, Ballaghaderreen and Shankill, Elphin. The late Babs was a popular and highly respected lady who will be sadly missed by all who had the immense pleasure of knowing her. The deceased passed away, peacefully, in her 95th year, in the loving care of the staff at Sonas Cloverhill Nursing Home, Roscommon, surrounded by her loving family. Predeceased by her beloved and adored husband, John; son, Jarlath; son-in-law, Henry; sister, Imelda (Collins); brother, Fr. Vincent and Michael and parents Patrick and Anne; the deceased is survived by her children, Mary Tuohy (Dublin), Vincent (London), Kevin (Dublin/Castlecoote), Oliver (Liverpool), Carmel (West Virginia), Therese Campbell (Dublin), Kieran (Mohill), Noel (San Francisco), Pascal (San Francisco/Elphin), Peter (Elphin), Colm (Elphin) and Imelda Larkin (Roscommon). Babs will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her 25 adored grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, sons-in-law Sean, Nick and Tomás, daughters-in -law, Claire, Teresa, Barbara, Miriam, Margaret, Breffni and Bernadette, nephews, nieces, relatives, extended family, neighbours and friends. The deceased reposed at her home, Main Street, before being removed yesterday morning (Monday) to St Patrick's Church, Elphin for Funeral Mass with burial afterwards in Caldra Cemetery.

Rathcroghan Visitor Centre in Tulsk will host a two-lecture seminar to mark the ancient Irish Cross Quarter Festivals returns. Reviving the Óenach: Bealtaine this year will look at the tradition of Booleying and its associated folklore around May Day. This lecture will be followed by a focus on the Corlea Trackway, near Kenagh in Co. Longford, an Iron Age route way believed to link the ancient royal landscape of Rathcroghan to the Hill of Uisneach. These assembles took place at important points in the year, particularly at the change of season. Well done to the Tulsk U-12 camogie team who started off their season on a fabulous sunny evening in Boyle last week. The girls emerged with a 100% record from their three games played – well done to all the players and management.
The local community extends its congratulations to Padraig Scott who and Sharon Bruen who were married last weekend. All of the community wish Padraig and Sharon long years of health and happiness.
Congratulations to Shane O’Connor and David Cryan who were both members of the management team Garda Siochana squad who recently claimed victory in the All-Ireland Inter-Firms competition. Both Shane and David contributed to their team defeating Aughinish Alumina 1-14 to 2-10 in the competition decider in Limerick last week. This was the team’s first year in the competition, making their success all the more commendable.
The next meeting of the County Roscommon Histrocial and Archaeological Society will take place on Tuesday, May 12th in the Rathcroghan Visitor Centre from 8 p.m.. All members are invited to attend the meeting – new members are welcome. The lecture following the meeting will be given by acclaimed genealogist, Eilish Feeley on the recently published 1926 census.
