Eighteen more primary schools in County Roscommon to receive hot school meals

Hot school meals are being made available to eighteen more primary schools in County Roscommon.

Hot school meals are being made available to eighteen additional primary schools in County Roscommon under a new plan announced this week by An Taoiseach Simon Harris and Minister Heather Humphreys.

Fine Gael’s Seanad spokesperson on Education, Aisling Dolan, has welcomed the expansion of the programme. She said that she had spoken to principals recently who highlighted the “incredible impact” of hot school meals for their school.

“Now more children and families in County Roscommon will have hot school meals available in their school. Parents won’t have the additional morning task of preparing lunches and will know that their children will have a good nutritious meal during the day. And it also helps children focus more in school,” said Senator Dolan.

“An evaluation in 2022 by the Department of Social Protection highlighted the positive impact of hot school meals with teachers speaking about improved attendance, behaviour management and concentration in class. And high percentage of students indicated they very much enjoyed the meals,” she said.

The 18 additional schools included under the programme are: SN Michil Naofa, SN Cill Ronain, Lismoil NS, Mount Talbot NS, Athleague NS, Brideswell NS, Scoil Mhuire, Camcloon NS, Clooncagh NS, Clonown NS, SN Rath Aradh, St Mary's Primary, SN O’ Dubhlain, SN Cluain Na Cille, SN Cnoc An Chrocaire, Ballintleva NS, Roxboro NS, And St Cóman's Wood Primary School.
