Mrs Mary Hevehan, Cloonshade, Four Roads, whose passing took place recently at the residence of her daughter, Mrs Aileen McEntee, Leafin, Nobber, County Meath, was in her 106th year. Aged 105 on August 20th last, she was the former Ms Mary Dowd, Curnapallis, Four Roads, and she had resided in family setting at Cloonshade from 1951 up until eight years ago when she took up residence with her daughter Aileen and family. A member of a well-known Four Roads farming family, she had been in ill health a short time. Of a quiet and caring disposition, she was respected in her residential catchment for her devotion to her family and her capacity for hard work. She took a keen interest in all farming affairs always and was noted for her sense of neighbourliness in her residential catchment. An excellent homemaker, she was skilful at knitting sewing and cooking. A religious person, she was a regular visitor to Knock Shrine over the decades and she supported a number of charitable causes. She was predeceased in April 2005 by her husband, Michael and is survived by sons, Liam, Cloonshade; Malachy, Sandymount, Dublin; daughters, Mrs Aileen McEntee; Mrs Marian O'Neill, Naas; Mrs Gerardine Kavanagh, Durrow, County Laois. The last surviving member of a farming family of three boys and two girls, she is also survived by her sister-in-law, Kathleen Dowd, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a number of other relatives. Following Concelebrated Mass at the Church of Christ the Good Shepherd, Four Roads, on Monday, February 23rd, the burial took place in Tisrara Cemetery. The celebrants of the Mass were Very Rev. Francis Beirne, PP, Ballyforan, Dysart and Tisrara and Rev. Paddy Mc Guinness, Celbridge, a friend of the Hevehan family.

The winners of the weekly progressive 25 card drive at the St Brigid's Handball Complex in Curraghboy on Tuesday night last were Mrs Marian Grehan, Johnny Cormican, Kevin Donnelly, Mrs Marian Lynch, Mrs Eithne Leonard, Mrs Marian Dunning, Ms Mary Duignan, Padraig Harney and Cllr Tony Ward.
Many tributes were paid to Pat Leonard, Station Road, Kiltoom, at the AGM of the Roscommon IFA County Executive in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon, on Thursday night, February 26th. Mr Leonard had held the post of chairperson of the Roscommon IFA County Executive for the past four years. Members lauded him for his dedication in the role and for the fair and impartial manner in which he conducted the county executive meetings. Sean Finan, Ballinlough, a past national president of Macra Na Feirme, has been appointed chairperson for a four year term. The other officers elected on the night were as follows: Vice-Chairperson, Michael Beattie, Rahara; Secretary, Francie Mc Kiernan, Arigna; Treasurer, Damien Shaughnessy, Lisphelim, Knockcroghery; Asst Secretary, Kevin King, Rathbrennan, Roscommon and PRO, Aibhen Shelley, Strokestown.
The death took place on Sunday, February 22nd, at University College Hospital, Galway, of Mrs Margaret Lohan, Claggernagh East, Portumna, who was the former Ms Margaret Cunniffe, Liswilliam, Dysart. Aged 52 in October last, her passing has caused profound sorrow and regret among her immediate and extended family, teaching colleagues, neighbours and wide circle of friends. She had been in ill health for some time and she bore her illness with characteristic dignity and fortitude. Following the completion of her third level studies at Sion Hill College, she was attached to the teaching staff of Portumna Community School for the past 26 years. She was a teacher of home economics and religion and she will long be remembered by her hundreds of past pupils, their parents and her teaching colleagues for her natural teaching skills and her care and concern for all the pupils who passed through her classes over the years. She was a devoted wife and mother and was also noted for performing neighbourly deeds and kind acts in her residential community. An excellent homemaker, she was also a sports enthusiast and a follower of all Portumna, Galway and Roscommon GAA panels. An engaging conversationalist on a one to one basis, she enjoyed friendships with a wide age range. She is survived by her husband Padraig, a native of Four Roads; daughters, Sinead, Fiona, Ruth and Sarah and son, Sean. A member of a farming family of five girls, she is also survived by sisters, Mrs Denise Bolger, Correal, Four Roads; Mrs Joanna Kelly, Liswilliam, Dysart; Mrs Fiona Sutton, Golf Links Road, Roscommon; Mrs Maura Delaney, Liswilliam; mother-in-law, Mrs Ann Lohan, Four Roads; brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews and a number of other relatives. Following Concelebrated Mass at St Brigid's Church, Portumna, on Wednesday, February 25th, the burial took place in Portumna Cemetery.

The death took place on Friday, February 20th, of Mr William (Billy) Doyle, Hawthorn Drive, Hillview, Waterford, who was a native of Grange, Curraghboy. Aged 68, he was an employee of Waterford County Council for upwards of 30 years and he was deservedly popular with his work colleagues and the general public alike. A devoted husband and father, he was an obliging neighbour and trustworthy friend. He had been in ill health for some time and he bore his illness with characteristic resilience. He was a sports enthusiast and a follower of both the GAA and soccer scene nationally. He also had a lifelong interest in environmental issues and animal welfare generally. He is survived by his wife, Imelda, (nee Kennedy, Waterford City) and daughters, Jennifer and Elizabeth. He was predeceased by his brother Tony, Grange, in November 2012 and is also survived by brothers, Noel, Knocknacarra, Galway; George, Curraghboy; PJ, Rathmines, Dublin; sister, Mary, Harolds Cross, Dublin, nieces, nephews and a number of other relatives. There was a celebration of his life at the Falioner Funeral Home, Riverstown, Tramore, on Sunday evening, February 22nd and it was followed by a private cremation service at the Island Crematorium Ringaskiddy, County Cork, on Monday, February 23rd.

Aged 82, the deceased was a native of Shraheens, Balla, County Mayo, and he had resided at Taughboy in family setting for a number of decades. He had been in ill health a short time and he bore his illness with characteristic dignity. He was noted for his sense of neighbourliness in his residential catchment. He is survived by his wife Margaret, (Peggy), nee Clogher, Taughboy); son, David, Queensland, Australia; daughter-in-law, Karen and two grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, James; sisters, Kathleen and Gabrielle, nieces, nephews and a number of other relatives. Following Mass of the Resurrection at the Church of Christ the Good Shepherd, Four Roads, the burial took place in Taughboy Cemetery. The celebrant of the Mass was Very Rev. Francis Beirne, PP, Ballyforan, Dysart and Tisrara.

Aged 84 on May 31st last, she was the former Ms Attracta Benson, St Francis Terrace, Athlone, and she had resided in family setting at the Hill of Berries for over 50 years. Of a chatty and friendly disposition, she was devoted to her immediate and extended family and noted for her sense of neighbourliness in her residential catchment. She was in employment as a dressmaker with an Athlone firm for a number of years prior to marriage and she was noted for her skills in that work arena. An excellent homemaker, she was also skilful at knitting, cooking and baking. A devout Catholic, she was a member of the Altar Society at the Church of the Risen Christ, Ballybay, Kiltoom, for a number of decades and she supported a wide range of charitable causes and bequests. She enjoyed reading and gardening as her main hobbies. She was also a playing member of Athlone Golf Club up until her late sixties and she had the distinction of recording two holes in one at the Hodson Bay course over the years. She retained many lifelong relationships with families in St Francis Terrace and she enjoyed friendships with a wide age range. She was predeceased in July 2013 by her husband, Ned, who was a native of the Hill of Berries, and is survived by one son, James, Hill of Berries; daughters, Edwina, Monksland; Mrs Lisa Allen, Castlemine, Fourmilehouse and Emma, Hill of Berries. She is also survived by sisters, Mrs Patricia Murray, Hodson Bay, Mrs Valerie Mc Gee, Loughrea; brother-in-law, John; five grandchildren and a number of other relatives. Following Mass of the Resurrection at the Church of the Risen Christ, Ballybay, Kiltoom, on Monday, February 23rd, the burial took place in Kiltoom Cemetery. The celebrant of the Mass was Very Rev. Michael Mc Manus, PP, Kiltoom and Cam. He was assisted by Deacon William Gacquin, Curraghboy.
