BROTHERS CARRY FLAGS FOR MAJOR SOCCER MATCH AT AVIVA STADIUM 

Two Roscommon brothers had their dreams come true on Sunday afternoon when they carried the team flags for the Bohemians v Shamrock Rovers game at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

Conor and Lorcan Concannon, sons of Sinead and Brian Concannon, Roscommon Town, are both pupils at Coman’s Wood National School.

Conor won the chance to carry the flags when he took part in a colouring competition while undergoing a heart check at Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

While at the hospital Conor took part in the Barretstown organised competition and his winning picture was printed on the match day programme. Conor won the VIP tickets and the chance to carry the flags, which he shared with his brother.

YOUTH MASS TELEVISED LIVE 

Representatives of the youth of Roscommon Parish and the Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon Town, and Fr. Kevin Fallon will take the lead in celebrating this Sunday’s (February 23rd) televised Mass on RTÉ1. The live broadcast begins at 11 a.m. on RTÉ 1 TV and RTÉ Radio 1 Extra / LW252.

FLEADH CHEOIL ROS COMÁIN 

The closing date for entries to Fleadh Cheoil Ros Comáin competitions, is March 5th. Entry forms can be obtained by emailing morrispatricia07@gmail.com or by logging into Comhaltas Ros Comáin Facebook page. The Roscommon Fleadh will be held in Athlone on Easter Monday, April 21st.

ROSCOMMON LGFA TABLE QUIZ 

Roscommon minor ladies are hosting a Table Quiz in the Hyde Centre Roscommon on Saturday, February 22nd, kicking off at 8 p.m., €10 per person, tables of 4/6. Lots of spot prizes and fun on the night. All proceeds will go to the 2025 minor team training fund. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

LINE DANCING CLASS 

Line dancing lasses continue on Fridays at 11.15 a.m. and Sundays at 6 p.m. in the Quad Centre, Circular Road, Roscommon Town. Line dancing classes on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the Kilbride Community Centre, Fourmilehouse. A special welcome to come and enjoy a class with a mixture of fun, dance and exercise. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED 

Are you interested in supporting someone with an intellectual disability, to be part of the community in which they live? Volunteers provide a valuable contribution by connecting people to their local communities. Volunteers enrich the lives of the people we support, by bringing friendship and fun into their lives. Volunteers can do this by attending local social activities or sporting events together, go for a walk, swimming, or just sharing interests and chatting over a cup of coffee/tea. Training for the Roscommon Community Challenge on Friday, March 7th at 8 p.m. is underway. This event supports Roscommon Special Olympics and Roscommon Community Sports Park. Training sessions every Monday and Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Lisnamult.

LATE MR P.J. FREEHILY 

The death occurred on February 11th of Mr Paddy Joe (P.J.) Freehily, Highlake, Fourmilehouse, Roscommon. P.J. died peacefully, in the devoted care of the staff at the Roscommon Hospice. He will be very sadly missed by his brother, Martin, his cousins, extended family, neighbours and good friends. His remains were removed from Smyth’s Funeral Home, Roscommon on Friday evening to St Patrick’s Church, Ballinaheglish. Following Mass of the Resurrection on Saturday, burial took place afterwards in Oran Cemetery. May he rest in peace.
