Local Notes: Exam Mass, Diamond Jubilees, Crochet Creativity

EXAM MASS 

There will be Mass for all students sitting exams on this Wednesday, June 3rd at 8 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Church. All are welcome.

ROSCOMMON PLOUGHING ASSOCIATION AWARDS AND PRESENTATION NIGHT 

 Roscommon Ploughing Association wishes to thank everyone who supported the 2026 county ploughing championships held on the Hanley family farm, Fuerty. The Association greatly appreciates the support, sponsorship, voluntary effort and goodwill received from the local community, businesses, stewards and volunteers which contributed to another successful event. The awards and presentation night will take place on Saturday, June 6th at 9 p.m. in Castlecoote Lodge (Leydens). Presentations will be made to county winners and those qualifying to represent Roscommon at the All-Ireland Ploughing Championships in Tullamore this September. Music and refreshments will be provided and all are welcome to attend. The Association wishes all All-Ireland finalists the very best of luck in their respective classes.

CHAIR YOGA CLASS

ALL -IRELAND MEN’S ROSARY RALLY 

Men’s Rosary groups from all across Ireland are meeting up together with the National Rosary Rally in Knock on Saturday, June 6th at 1 p.m. at the Plaza (opposite Knock Shrine). There will be no Men’s Rosary in Roscommon on the day.

DIAMOND JUBILEES 

On Friday, June 19th at 7 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon a celebration Mass will be held to mark the diamond jubilee of the ordinations of Fr. Eugene & Fr. Joe. This will be followed by light refreshments in St. Coman’s Wood school hall. All are welcome.

ANNUAL DISPLAY DAY 

Apostolic Work are holding their annual display day on June, 7th in Kilbride Community Centre, Fourmilehouse. Doors open 12 noon. Concelebrated Mass with Bishop Kevin Doran at 2 p.m. followed by distribution of the 2026 Easter Chicken Funds. Refreshments will be served afterwards. Please come along, especially if you have sponsored/ would like to sponsor sacred vessels, meet some of the recipients, some old friends and the visiting missionaries. Everyone most welcome.

DROP-IN DIGITAL SKILLS SESSIONS 

Drop-in digital skills sessions for adults take place at Roscommon Library on Tuesdays from 1-3 p.m.. Come to the library where you can get help and advice from a tutor from Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board (GRETB). Bring your own device (phone, tablet, laptop)

The monthly meeting of Roscommon ICA Guild will be held this evening, Tuesday, June 2nd at 7.30 p.m. in Vita House. New members are welcome.

Family support drop-in clinic on Thursday, June 4th and Thursday, June 18th in the South Roscommon Family Resource Centre F42 N971. This service is also available in Vita House Outreach, Monksland N37 K163 on the same dates.

CROCHET CREATIVITY 

Crochet creativity is one of the many exciting events taking place across County Roscommon on June 6th for Cruinniú na nÓg. Join in for a day of creativity, fun, and imagination.

CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOPS FOR YOUNG ADULTS 

Starting this month libraries across Roscommon will host a series of writing for youth adults workshops led by a professional writer in a welcoming, supportive environment. You will get the chance to explore your creativity, connect with other young writers, and contribute your work to a brand-new publication. In Roscommon the workshops will be held at Roscommon Library on Thursdays from 12 non -2 p.m. from June 18th to July 9th. (SiarScéal Festival 2026 builds on the success of previous celebrations of youth writing. The festival culminates in live events at Roscommon Library and Sligo Library this October, where young writers will read and perform their work alongside acclaimed musicians Clíodhna Quinlan and Mark Murphy of GreenBirdFlying.

ROSCOMMON HARRIERS 10 MILE ROAD RACE 

 Roscommon Harriers AC has announced that its 11th annual 10 mile road race is taking place on June 27th, 2026. This race is part of the Peugeot Race Series in conjunction with Pop up Races. The race is located on the outskirts of Roscommon Town and commences at 11 a.m.. Organisers guarantee all participants a fantastic race day, with a fast-flat scenic route, perfect for those hoping to achieve a PB. I also is ideal for runners new to the 10-mile distance and those wishing to simply enjoy a scenic flat race. The race distance, course and timing of race also fit nicely with Autumn marathon training. The race is AAI approved, chipped timed for accurate results BINGO Bingo at the Hyde Centre each Sunday at 8 p.m.. Book and jackpot €10.
