Local Notes: Gospel singers, Strokestown parkrun and monster auction

Participants in a recent series of GRETB writers’ workshops facilitated in Strokestown Library by Jessemine O’Connor, writer and author.

STROKESTOWN CCE AGM 

The AGM of Strokestown CCE takes place in the Hub behind SuperValu on Friday, November 24th. Information and registration starting from 6.30 p.m. for meeting starting at 8 p.m.. All welcome.

PARKRUN

 On a very wet Saturday morning 64 participants ran, jogged or walked the course of Strokestown parkrun. There were visitors from Sligo, Wicklow and Lough Key parkruns Thanks for travelling Alan, Damien, Denise, and Fintan. The group also welcomed parkrun ambassador Jim who volunteered on the day Arthur Donnelly was 1st male through the chute with Sarah Dixon, the first lady. There was a good mix of runners and walkers.

ALONE 

ALONE is seeking volunteers who would be willing to provide companionship or make calls to older people for one hour once a week. Full training and support provided. SCDA FORTNIGHTLY DRAW

Prayers for November in Cloonfinlough Cemetery on Sunday, November 26th at 1 p.m.. A Holy Hour of prayer for the Holy Souls before the Blessed Sacrament will take place at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Strokestown, on Sunday, November 26th at 5 p.m..

KILGLASS GAELS LOTTO

 In the Kilglass Gaels Lotto held on November 18th, the numbers drawn were 10, 15, 25, 26 Bonus Number 6. There was no jackpot winner: There were two Match 3 number winners of€100 each: Anthony Mahady & Clare Mc Loughlin. Tish Dunleavy’s Sweet Spirit Country Gospel Singers will perform in St Mary’s Church of Ireland, Mohill on Friday, December 1st from 8 p.m. - 9.45 p.m. approximately Come and hear some great performances from Sean Mahon (The Rodeo Man), Pearl Kielty, MaryAnn McBrien, Peter Kilkenny, J.P O’Dowd, Saidhbhe Concannon performing songs like Candlelight & Wine, Abeline, Blue eyes carrying in the Rain, Oh Happy Day, New Jerusalem, The lucky old sun, Peace on Earth-Drummer Boy, You Raise me Up, Caledonia, Bridge over troubled Waters and many more classics. A great evening of music and song is promised for two good causes. Main beneficiary Sligo Hospital Oncology Unit Trust and a donation to the Brain Injury Unit Beaumont Hospital. TALK ON ALZHEIMER’S 

A talk on Alzheimer’s and dementia will take place on Tuesday, December 5th at 1145 a.m. at the Community Centre Roosky. The talk will be quite informal and all welcome to participate. Everyone is welcome to attend, especially carers, people worried about their memory.

MONSTER AUCTION 

A monster Auction Night will take place on Friday, December 1st, in the Four Provinces Lounge, Rathallen, commencing at 8 p.m.. Large number of valuable lots on offer. Proceeds in aid of new playground at Croghan NS. All support much appreciated on the night.

HOUSE CALLS

CONFERENCE FOR AUTISTIC YOUNG PEOPLE

A conference for autistic young people and their families, hosted by Summerhill College, Sligo, takes place on Saturday, November 25th. The purpose of the conference is to inspire families and give information regarding the supports that are in place for those with Autism when they leave post primary education. Keynote speakers include Temple Grandin, Stefanie Preissner and Yasmine Multani. The conference also includes many informative workshops. To book, visit www.summerhillcollege.ie.

MUSIC-FILLED SHOWS IN THE DOCK 

The talented Lyrical Locals will present two music-filled shows in The Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon, on Saturday, November 25th, with matinee at 2 p.m. and evening show at 7 p.m.. Performing on both shows will be the Croghan Community Choir, with almost thirty members. They will be joined by singers and musicians from the Croghan, Drumlion and Cortober areas including Malachy Costello, Ryan Mulligan and Shane Beirne. The Old Creamery Community Cafe is now open on Saturday and Sundays from 10.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.. All welcome to call in for tea/coffee and sample a variety of home baked cakes, apple tarts, scones, brown bread, etc..

SHANNON GAELS GAA 50/50 DRAW
