Road works are taking place on the N61 and motorists are advised to expect delays. Resurfacing works at taking place on the busy national secondary road on the Ballymurray side of Roscommon Town.

The road at the scene is currently closed with local traffic diversions in place.

The Athlone road outside Roscommon Town is closed following a serious accident tonight, local Gardaí have said. The road, the N61, is expected to remained closed in the morning. Diversions are in place.

News that the chief executive of Roscommon County Council is meeting Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) representatives to discuss a long-awaited safety review of the N61 was welcomed at an Athlone Municipal District meeting last week.
