Plans are being discussed to install 167 modular homes in Roscommon Town, Boyle and Ballaghaderreen to provide accommodation for 686 Ukrainian refugees, the Roscommon Herald can reveal.
The Local Government Management Agency (LGMA), which provides a range of professional services to the local government sector, provided the proposals to Roscommon County Council today, Wednesday.
Four sites – two in Roscommon Town – have been identified for the installation of these modular units.
In the Lisard, Lisnamult area of the town, 50 four-bed units are being proposed to house 200 people.
There are plans for 20 four-bed units near Centre Point in the town to cater for eighty people. The site identified is located to the rear of Lidl supermarket in Roscommon Town.
In the Little Oaks area of Ballaghaderreen located near a nursing home, 47 units are being planned to cater for 206 people. These homes comprise 18 three-bed units and 29 two-bed units.
In Boyle, there are plans to accommodate 200 Ukrainian refugees in 50 four-bed units to the rear of housing at Greatmeadow.
Launched in November last year, the Department of Integration’s modular portal have invited expressions of interest for turnkey modular small scale residential developments.
This includes the provision of a site, modular homes and full operation and maintenance of the development.
The Department has asked for the views of each local authority on an expression of interest received for modular offers in their area.
It’s understood that the LGMA are now seeking feedback from Roscommon County Council on the modular housing plans for Roscommon Town, Boyle and Ballaghaderreen.
