A €400,000 funding allocation for the Lough Key to Carrick-on-Shannon Greenway has been welcomed by Fine Gael TD, Frank Feighan.

The allocation was part of funding for the further development of greenways across Ireland, announced today by Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien.

Deputy Feighan said that the greenway has the potential to provide a strong transport and tourist link with benefits to both Lough Key and Carrick-on-Shannon and in turn Boyle town.

“I am thrilled to see a further €400,000 allocated to the Lough Key/Carrick greenway which will further progress this project to the next stage.

“As a TD, I will continue to monitor the progress of the greenway and will endeavour to seek further funding to bring the project to completion”, declared Deputy Feighan.

Local authorities today received their allocations which will allow them to progress the various projects connecting many major tourist locations.

Roscommon County Council has been allocated a total of €2,295,000 under the scheme.
