€700,000 Just Transition funding for Roscommon tourism projects

The funding was allocated under Fáilte Ireland’s investment grant-aid scheme for private and community SMEs.

Five tourism projects in County Roscommon have received almost €700,000 in Just Transition funding.

The projects were among a further 24 projects across the country which received total funding of more than €3.6m under Fáilte Ireland’s investment grant-aid scheme for private and community SMEs.

Funding of €300,000, the largest Roscommon allocation, went to Kingston Hall, Rockingham, Boyle. The project involves the design and planning for the full restoration and adaptive reuse of the hall and its grounds for accommodation purposes.

Gleesons Townhouse and Restaurant in Roscommon Town received €189,750 for the provision of accessible bedrooms with bathrooms, enhancing pathways, installing automatic doors, and creating accessible dining areas.

Grange Lodge in Strokestown has been allocated €146,573 for an enhanced visitor experience through the addition of kayaks with storage, electric and regular bikes, aluminium fishing boats, and an ATV for equipment transport.

Funding of €53,480 has been secured by the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon Town. The project involves the conversion of an existing bedroom and adjoining room into an accessible bedroom. Toilets in wheelchair-accessible rooms will also be updated.

€10,000 has been provided for the installation of interpretative signage at Clonalis House in Castlerea.

Under the scheme, projects span four regenerative tourism development categories, including the development or enhancement of sustainable visitor experiences; development of sustainable/low carbon tourist accommodation; capital project planning and design; and accessibility enhancements to provide a more inclusive visitor experience.
