Alzheimer’s Memory Walk event planned for County Roscommon Town

An Alzheimer’s Memory Walk will take place on Sunday, September 20th in Castlerea, ahead of World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21st.
The Castlerea event will take place at The Demesne, meeting at Fair’s Gates, Knockroe entrance, at 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 20th to walk once around the park.
Now in its seventh year the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, supported by Aviva, is more than just a fundraiser, it’s a celebration of connection, compassion, and community.
In 2025, almost 3,000 walkers took part in events around the country, raising over €240,000 to help fund vital ASI services including daycare, family carer training, social clubs, dementia cafés and the national helpline.
Local champion Michelle Shiel will lead the County Roscommon Memory Walk in Castlerea again this year, walking in support of all those currently living with dementia. “I am proud to again lead our annual Alzheimer’s Memory Walk supported by Aviva to help fund local dementia services in County Roscommon. The event is about community and helping spread awareness by walking together to raise vital funds for care, support, and hope for the days ahead.
