Average spend on an engagement ring in County Roscommon

New figures show the average spend on engagement rings in Ireland by county.
Valentine’s Day may have come and gone but for some it marked a very special proposal with men and women all over the country getting down on one knee to ask their loved one to marry them.
Of course top of the list when making this move is the engagement ring and a recent survey shows that in County Roscommon rings are costing an average of €4,220.
Roscommon comes 17th on the list of the 32 counties with Cork taking top spot at €5,855 but Galway comes in a close second with rings averaging €5,720.
Bottom of the list is Longford with an average spend of €3,770 with Cavan coming in at the 31st spot at €3,870 and Leitrim coming in third from the bottom at €3,920. Mayo people are also reported to be spending an average of €3,925.
Westmeath couples are spending an average of €4,050 on a ring with Sligo couples forking out a bit more at €4,605 according to bespokediamonds.ie Tradition states that you should spend no less than one month’s salary on an engagement ring. This suggestion first came about in the 1930s when diamond jewellery was booming, and advertising campaigns told customers that it would “show her what the future would be like” – suggesting that if you could afford that much on a ring, your future wife would be living in luxury.
However, since then, that tradition has grown and changed, along with the people buying engagement rings. Nowadays, the price of an engagement ring has become much more customisable – changing to suit the needs and attitudes of consumers. The advice today is to spend what you feel comfortable with, with most people believing you should only spend what you have in your budget.
