Calf compartment wins enterprise award for County Roscommon student

First place winner in the Scoil Mhuire Enterprise Competition was Aiden Healy - The Calf Compartment.

Enterprise is alive and well at Scoil Mhuire, Strokestown where a number of TY students recently competed in the Student Enterprise Awards and where a project entitled 'The Calf Compartment' took the top prize.

This year the student enterprise programme is being facilitated by PJ Mullin of Whizzkids as part of the Local Enterprise Office (LEO). After a busy day of setting up the various companies and their products it was time to present the fruits of the labour to the representatives of both the Local Enterprise Office, PJ Mullin, Jeremy Cullen and Karen Kelly, and the Roscommon Leader Programme, Thomás Beades.

There were a total of 32 businesses on display representing students from each of the TY Business teachers, Ms Lally, Ms Harte, Ms Kilillea and Mr Cryan.

Second place winner in the Scoil Mhuire Enterprise Competition was Caoimhe Nolan - Caoimhe's Crochet.

He and fellow judge Thomás Beades noted the wonderful opportunity afforded to the students in the enterprise competition and commented on the high standard of work on display this year and in years gone by.

The students were also commended by Principal Eamonn Corrigan along with the teachers of the Business department. Having visited each group to sample and investigate the various products on offer, the judges took time to carefully consider their choice of winners. Having deliberated for some time, the decisions were finally made and it was left to Karen Kelly to announce the winners. Well done to all who took part and best of luck to the various winners who now go forward to the County Enterprise Final.
