The longstanding issue of strategic improvements to Roosky bridge was highlighted at the July meeting of Boyle Municipal District where Cllr Tom Crosby disagreed with the NTA’s findings that the trial traffic light system put in place two years ago was successful.
Out of the three options given for the bridge’s future, a two-way shuttle system, widening the bridge and constructing a new one, Cllr Cosby felt the latter option was the only satisfactory solution.
A council spokesperson stated that constructing a new bridge would be the most expensive option.
Cllr Crosby argued planning was approved and funding of €1.4m had been made available to Roscommon and Leitrim County Councils previously for the project in 2008, and he asked for it to be reinstated, adjusted for inflation.
He also called for an inquiry into where the funding that had been made available went.
His fellow councillors agreed that a new bridge is needed and supported Cllr Crosby’s call for an inquiry.
