Council gives 'firm commitment' on repair works to vandalised playground, says Frain

The damage has been condemned by local Independent councillor Michéal Frain.

Roscommon County Council has committed to dealing with the damage caused to the Ballaghaderreen Playground, Cllr Micheál Frain has said.

Posting on social media today, he said that following the recent assessment of the playground, the extent of the damage caused by the vandalism was a little greater than initially thought.

“The good news is that Roscommon County Council has given me a firm commitment that the necessary works will be carried out,” the Independent councillor said. "It will take a little time, but it will be worth the wait. The health and safety of our children must always come first."

He added that following discussions with a number of parents, he was delighted that a committee would now be formed to help oversee the day-to-day running and upkeep of the playground, and help prevent future vandalism.

“A sincere thank you to everyone who has come forward and offered their support. This is exactly the kind of community spirit we need,” he said. “We will not allow a small cohort of vandals to destroy what belongs to our children and our community.

Our playground is an important amenity for local families, and together we will ensure it has a positive future.”
