Roscommon County Council is seeking further information on the controversial plans to expand the refugee accommodation centre in Ballaghaderreen.

A decision on the development was due today but the local authority is seeking more information in relation to the proposals.

The applicant, Next Week & Co Ltd, is seeking planning permission for the construction of a two-storey extension to the Emergency Reception and Orientation Centre (EROC) at the former Abbeyfeld Hotel.

The expansion aims to provide additional accommodation with a single storey corridor link to the existing EROC. The new accommodation proposes 18 bedrooms and a general purpose room.

The application is also seeking to develop an Astro turf pitch and a play area at the site.

A considerable number of submissions opposing the development were made on the planning application.

The EROC has been in operation since 2017.
