Council seeks public views on columbarian wall proposal
St Peter and Paul's in Portlaoise is the only Laois cemetery with a columbarium wall
The public’s views are being sought on a possible columbarium wall for St Coman’s Cemetery in the county town.
Roscommon County Council has started a consultation period for the installation of a columbarium wall and reflection area at St Coman’s Cemetery, Ardsallagh Beg, Roscommon Town.
“The proposed development will provide an alternative option to burials plots for the interment of cremated remains,” the council said. “A columbarium wall is a structure containing a collection of niches for the respectful inurnment of human remains following cremation.”
The proposed development involves the construction of eight granite columbarium wall units, as well as a reflection area of granite paving and silver chip coated asphalt with granite benches. There would also be granite kerbing and low maintenance evergreen low-level hedging surrounding the walls and the reflection area.
An appropriate assessment screening report of the development has been carried out and is available for inspection, the council said.
For a period of four weeks from November 7th, plans of the proposed development may be inspected or purchased during public opening hours at the offices of Roscommon County Council, Áras an Chontae, Roscommon Town F42 VR98. Plans and particulars may also be viewed via the .
