Plans for a major sports campus for Roscommon Town have been approved this morning, Thursday.
At a special meeting of Roscommon Municipal District, councillors formally approved the development of the iROS (Indoor Recreation and Outdoor Sports Park) project which will be located on the Convent grounds, Convent Road, Ardnanagh.
The Part 8 project includes the creation of an indoor four court sports hall; two multipurpose studio spaces and changing facilities; an outdoor, multi-sport, multi lined and floodlit artificial pitch; a grass pitch as well as the development of an outdoor fitness park and play park.
The development also proposes a perimeter trail enabling recreational walking along with ancillary services for both indoor and outdoor facilities.
The proposed pitches and trails will be located on the Mercy College’s sports grounds, currently managed by the school and owned by the Educena Foundation.
The Foundation is the key stakeholder along with Roscommon County Council.
