County Roscommon featured in new documentary

The National Famine Way commemorates a heart-breaking walk of forced emigration which took place in 1847 at the height of the Irish Famine.
A new documentary on County Roscommon and Westmeath during the Famine is available to watch on Youtube.
Dubliner George Fitzgerald, a 60-year-old writer, director, and musician, retraced the footsteps of the Strokestown tenants, who marched from Roscommon to Dublin in 1847. The documentary, The Journey, can be viewed on YouTube.
Mr Fitzgerald was very impressed with County Roscommon’s history and landscape.
“For outdoor lovers, there are hills, valleys and waterways to explore. Roscommon’s natural charms pair perfectly with its unique attractions,” he said.
“You can visit Lough Key Forest and Activity Park, Boyle Abbey, and King House."
He also praised "the incredible" Strokestown House.
Mr Fitzgerald is the author of the ‘Ashley Brown’ series and also ‘We Lived in the Sky’, which details his life growing up in the infamous Dublin Ballymun flats until the family moved in 1972 to Finglas.
