County Roscommon medical practice announces changes

A medical practice in County Roscommon has announced changes to its systems.
Abbey Medical Centre, which is a family owned GP practice providing medical care to the people of Boyle, said on its social media this morning that it was initiating changes.
“Due to the increasing level of use of the primary care system, we as a practice, have had to make decisions to continue our belief that a walk in system is preferable in the daily need of the patient and community,” the practice said.
It added that all patients will be put up as general and will not be able to choose a doctor for their consultation.
“Although this may cause some frustration in the community, we can see no other way of continuing the walk in system without drastic overhaul of our practice,” it said.
“Of course, if your medical issue on presentation is gender specific, we will endeavour to have you seen by a same sex doctor to allow you the comfort and reassurance to discuss your issues “Please bear with us as we attempt to keep a high level of care in the community with same day consultations.”
