County Roscommon road reopens following fatal accident

The Strabraggan-Arigna (R280) road, where a young man was killed in a two vehicle collision yesterday evening, has re-opened.
The road in North Roscommon had been closed with local diversions in place.
A male driver, aged in his twenties, died in the accident which occurred at approximately 8.20 p.m..
A woman (50s) and male child were brought to Sligo University Hospital for treatment of injuries believed to be serious but not life-threatening.
In a social media post, local Sinn Fein councillor Leah Cull thanked all the emergency services and the Roscommon County Council crew for making sure all traffic was diverted carefully all night and into the afternoon.
“A painful reminder as to how fragile life is. Thinking of everyone involved at this extremely difficult time", she said.
The scene is currently undergoing technical examination by Gardaí forensic collision investigators. Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area at the time of the incident between 8 p.m. and 8.30 p.m., are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
