New heritage flipbook brings to life over 5,000 years of Roscommon’s heritage

‘Roscommon: Our County, Our Heritage’, will be of interest to all ages.

A new interactive digital flipbook showcasing the built, natural, cultural and intangible heritage of County Roscommon has been launched.

While aimed at children aged 7-13, the publication, ‘Roscommon: Our County, Our Heritage’, will be of interest to all ages. It covers topics as diverse as geology, archaeology, architecture, museums, place names, famous people, wildlife and more. It is best viewed on a PC or laptop.

Each page has interactive ‘did you know’ sections which encourage engagement. It is further enhanced by the addition of enhanced audio, making local history more accessible, inclusive and engaging for all.

It brings to life over 5,000 years of Roscommon’s heritage – from ancient tombs and royal sites to medieval castles, monastic ruins, and Big House estates. It invites readers to journey through time, discovering the stories of Queen Medb, the O’Conor kings, famine survivors, miners, monks and more.

Designed to support literacy, accessibility and creative engagement, this ezine ensures that Roscommon’s heritage can be enjoyed by diverse audiences, including those with visual impairments, learning differences, or a preference for auditory storytelling.

‘Our County Our Heritage’ was produced by News Mag Media limited, a local publishing company delivering news and inclusive content to children aged 7-13 since 2011.

*This project is an action of Roscommon Heritage Strategy 2025-2029. The audio element was funded by Roscommon County Council’s Creative Ireland Programme 2025. Supported under Ceangal, the Local Authority Heritage Programme, delivered in partnership between the Heritage Council and Local Government Ireland.
