A section of the new N5 will open by Easter, it has emerged.
Roscommon County Council CEO Shane Tiernan confirmed the news at a council meeting this evening, Monday.
Mr Tiernan informed councillors that the Frenchpark bypass is set to open by Easter. This section of the new road is seven kilometres long.
The N5 project, involving a 33km upgrade of road, runs between the Ballaghaderreen bypass and Scramogue, and will bypass Frenchpark, Tulsk, and Strokestown.
Mr Tiernan said that this was “a good news story” and that there may be a formal opening of this Frenchpark section in the coming weeks.
The Council CEO said he would inform councillors of the exact opening date “as soon as we get clearance”.
