CycleUp Textiles opens new retail shop in Roscommon

Roscommon Women’s Network has announced the opening of its new CycleUp Textiles retail shop in Roscommon Town, bringing sustainable shopping, local craftsmanship and circular economy education to the town centre.

The new premises at Hynes’ Way, marks a milestone for the award-winning circular economy social enterprise, providing a dedicated retail destination for CycleUp’s handcrafted textile products while also serving as an information hub where members of the local community can learn more about textile waste, clothing reuse and repair, and the circular economy.

Every item available in the shop has been created by the team at CycleUp using reclaimed and donated textiles that would otherwise have gone to landfill.

From bags and homeware to accessories, each piece is designed and handmade in County Roscommon, giving unwanted materials a new lease of life.

CycleUp is a social enterprise operated by Roscommon Women’s Network, combining environmental action with meaningful employment, skills development and community engagement.

Through its work, the organisation supports the community to develop sewing, design and retail skills while contributing to a more sustainable future.

The new shop complements CycleUp’s long-established production base in Athleague, creating a town-centre space where people can browse locally made products, discover the story behind them and find out how simple changes can help reduce textile waste.

Since its establishment, CycleUp has diverted more than eight tonnes of textiles from landfill through upcycling, reuse initiatives and community education programmes.

Alongside its retail offering, the enterprise delivers workshops and community projects promoting textile waste reduction and the circular economy across the county and beyond.

Speaking about the opening, Aisling Owens, social enterprise manager, said: “We’re very excited to open our doors in Roscommon Town.

“This shop isn’t just somewhere to buy beautiful handmade products – it’s a place where people can get some insights about the circular economy, see the value in materials that might otherwise be discarded, and support a social enterprise that’s creating positive environmental and social impact within the county. We hope it becomes a welcoming space for locals and visitors alike.”

The opening of the new shop represents another important step in CycleUp’s continued growth following national recognition for its work in sustainability and social enterprise.

The CycleUp shop is now open at Unit 2, Hynes’ Way, Roscommon Town, and everyone is welcome to call in, browse the collection and learn more about how creativity, social impact and sustainability can all go hand in hand.
