Dorothy all set to serve up her free Christmas dinners
Dorothy Shannon from the King House Tea Rooms in Boyle will continue to spread her Christmas cheer again this year.
The annual free Christmas dinner event run by Dorothy Shannon at the King House Tea Rooms in Boyle will take place again this year on Sunday, December 28th.
Dorothy has run the Tea Rooms for over 10 years, and this will be her 8th time hosting the Christmas dinner event.
“A lot of people are lonely and living on their own. It’s a nice way for them to come together and have a nice Christmas dinner,” she explained.
Local food suppliers like Padraig Langan fruit & veg, McGrath’s butchers, and Gannon’s provide the produce for the dinner.
Local shops provide hats and crackers, and local pharmacies provide the presents for the day. There will also be live music in the afternoon, performed by locals.
“It’s a community event,” Dorothy explained.
Around 20-25 people avail of the dinner. Walk-ins are welcome but it is better to ring directly to book a space.
On the day, the three-course meal will be served at 1 p.m. with all the Christmas buzz, music in the afternoon, and presents.
“In every community we have people that need company. It’s important to have something for them at Christmas time,” Dorothy added.
As the initiative builds, she is hoping that in time bus drivers might volunteer to pick people up and drop them home as some may not be able to get themselves there.
