The Roscommon Herald understands that the collision occurred on the N5 at the Scramogue junction.
An air ambulance also attended the scene.
The road is currently closed to traffic with local diversions in place.
A Garda spokesperson has advised that traffic travelling eastbound from Strokestown or westbound from Longford town is encouraged to take the N63 via Roscommon town and Lanesborough.
