The accident forced the closure of the Castlerea to Williamstown Road on the outskirts of Castlerea.

Emergency services — including Gardaí, fire service and air ambulance — are, this afternoon (Thursday), at the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the outskirts of Castlerea.

The collision occurred on the R361 Castlerea to Williamstown Road earlier today.

Motorists are advised that the road is currently closed while the emergency services deal with the incident.

It is understood that one person has been airlifted to hospital.
