AIB Connacht LGFA Intermediate Final

A strong opening half performance from Galway club Tuam-Cortoon helped them overcome Roscommon champions Pádraig Pearses in today’s AIB Connacht LGFA intermediate final.

The Galway side jumped into a three-point lead after ten minutes but all of the Pearses full forward line, Katelyn Keogh, Blaithnaid Kelly and Laura Glennon, pointed in quick succession to level the game.

Despite some quality ball being delivered into the full forward line, Keogh would kick her side’s only other point of the half.

Pearses would finish the half a player short as Clodagh Powell was sent to the sin-bin in the 23rd minute, as they trailed 0-11 to 0-4 at the break.

Content with maintaining their lead, Tuam-Cortoon held onto possession for long periods of play in the second half.

This allowed Glennon to tag on four points (two frees) when Pearses broke forward, reducing the deficit to three heading into the final 15 minutes.

However, led by the likes of Galway player Aoife O’Rourke, who kicked 0-4 from play, Tuam-Cortoon kicked 1-3 to close the game out.

Gemma Casserly’s 55th minute goal dashed all hopes of a late Pearses comeback, concluding a positive season for manager John Whyte and his players as they look forward to senior football in 2027.
