The launch of an energy master plan for Roscommon Town, aimed at promoting a sustainable energy future, will take place tomorrow evening, Thursday, in the Abbey Hotel.
Roscommon Town Sustainable Energy Community (SEC), which is launching the plan, is a community led initiative promoted with the assistance of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and Roscommon County Council.
“The first step is how we use our energy as a town, looking for that fingerprint and what can we do to actually use energy sustainably,” said Jonathan Larkin, Chairperson of Roscommon Town SEC.
“There is a big opportunity here in not sending investment abroad or paying for energy costs that go abroad and try and keep it in the local community," he said.
Along with the discussion on a master energy plan, the evening will comprise several features.
They will include an energy bill clinic where people can bring along their electricity bill for a free review by an independent expert; a vendor showcase where local providers will offer cutting-edge sustainable energy solutions, and the provision of grant information where people can learn about SEAI grants available for homeowners and small businesses.
During the evening, Roscommon County Council will also make a presentation on the town’s decarbonisation zone.
The launch of the energy master plan takes place in the Abbey Hotel on this Thursday, March 27th at 6 p.m..
