Examination of lands in South Roscommon continues following discovery of woman's body

Gardaí are continuing to examine lands in South Roscommon following the discovery of a woman's body near Bealnamulla in South Roscommon yesterday afternoon, Monday.
An extensive search for missing Athlone woman 58-year-old Mirjana Pap was stood down after her body was found on lands at Curraghaleen, approximately two miles from Bealnamulla.
Mirjana, originally from Croatia, was reported missing from her home on Saturday, December 28th, and was last seen in Athlone in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A Garda spokesperson informed the Herald this morning that examinations are currently underway at the scene and at a residential property in Athlone by the Garda Technical Bureau. Two cars have also been seized for examination.
The local coroner has been notified and the woman's body has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Galway for a post-mortem examination by the Deputy State Pathologist.
A senior investigating officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Athlone Garda Station. A family liaison officer (FLO) has also been assigned to provide support to the family.
Gardaí in Athlone are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding her death.
During the public appeal for information on her whereabouts, Gardaí and Mirjana's family had serious concerns for her well-being.
