A €50,000 fundraising drive to pay for a newly installed prefab classroom has been launched by Lisaniskey NS, Oran.

Due to the expansion of the school, Lisaniskey needed a new classroom, and the school is now reaching out to the wider community for financial support.

During the summer, the school purchased a prefab to cater for its growing student population. However, having not received government funding, it has now launched a GoFundMe page to raise the necessary money.

The school has issued a rallying cry to all those connected with the area, including current families, past pupils and local businesses, seeking their help.

The school is located in Clooneycolgan, 13 kilometres from Roscommon Town, just off the Roscommon-Castlerea Road. Lisaniskey NS, which is also known as Clooneycolgan NS, has been an integral part of the local community in Oran for over a century. In recent years its student population has increased, which necessitated a fifth mainstream classroom.

“Every child deserves space to learn, grow and fulfil their potential. To make sure we can continue to provide this at Lisaniskey, we must raise €50,000. This is the first time we have ever had to seek support on this scale,” said school principal, Mr Noel Dervan.

• To donate to the fund, search Lisaniskey NS on the GoFundMe website.
