Farm walk to take place on Roscommon family farm
Michael and Peter Glennon will be hosting a Teagasc Suckler farm walk on their farm in Ballydangan on Monday evening.
The Glennon family in Ballydangan is holding a farm walk on Monday, September 1st at 6.30 p.m..
Michael Glennon farms alongside his father Peter and two sons, Martin and Shane in Ballydangan, Athlone.
Michael farms full-time across three land blocks consisting of a mixture of sandy gravel to peaty soil. The family run a commercial Spring and Autumn calving suckler herd, calf to beef enterprise and bred pedigree Simmentals as well as selling in-calf heifers.
A combination of a stock bull and AI is used to produce balanced terminal and maternal offspring. In most recent years, the farm has focused on producing commercial in-calf heifers for specialised breeding sales held throughout the province.
Michael is a member of the local beef grass group, and this has helped him a lot with making decisions on paddocks, fertiliser, reseeding etc.
Several topics will be discussed on the evening regarding animal vaccinations and best weaning practice, preparing weanling for sales, winter housing management, beef market outlook and upcoming SCEP, Beef Welfare Scheme and Dairy Beef Welfare scheme requirements and deadlines. The family look forward to seeing you all there on the evening.
Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served.
