Gardaí have announced that there will be some traffic and parking restrictions in Boyle this Wednesday due to the Rás Tailteann.

The 155.5km stage from Drogheda will see the peloton finish in Boyle between 2.00 p.m. and 4p.m., depending on racing speeds, with the finish line located outside An Craoibhín on The Crescent.

Garda Inspector Adrian Flynn told the Herald that preparations for the iconic cycle race began in January, and that local gardaí were delighted to support the event.

“The finish is in the town centre, it’s going to come up by the Garda Station, round by the bank and finish on The Crescent,” he said. He added that local gardaí had been liaising with Roscommon Sports Partnership, the council and the local cycling club, Curlieu Wheelers, since the start of the year on the event.

“Many volunteers and gardaí are required for the event and we have received great co-operation from all the stations in the Boyle District. It is resource intensive, but it will be over in a short period of time. We want to thank everyone for their co-operation on the day.”

“When the cyclists are on it, there will be no traffic on the road because these people are travelling at up to 40kms per hour,” he said.

He added that there will be parking restrictions in place from 10 a.m. and then there will be traffic restrictions in the afternoon.

“The time the cyclists arrive in Boyle depends when they leave Drogheda and on traffic. It could be from 2.00 p.m. or just after 4 p.m.. A lot of traffic goes through the town of Boyle, and we are trying to get the message out to road hauliers and other people passing through Boyle that there are going to be delays on Wednesday.”

The next stage start of the Rás Tailteann will be from Charlestown, County on Thursday, May 22nd.
