Garda helicopter called into South Roscommon area to help track down car thief

The garda air support unit was called in to help track down a man who stole a Range Rover in Baylough, Athlone, in the early hours of this morning, Tuesday.
It’s understood that the man then drove to the Cushla area of Monksland before abandoning the car and fleeing on foot.
Local residents in the Monksland area reported sightings of the Garda helicopter which was called in to search for the car thief.
Reports indicate that he managed to successfully escape into woodlands near Cushla.
A Garda spokesperson said that gardaí attended the scene of an incident in Athlone on Tuesday, October 7th at approximately 5.30 a.m..
“During the course of the incident a vehicle was taken from the property. Investigations are ongoing,” said the spokesperson.
Athlone gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information that could help the investigation to contact the garda station at 090 6498550.
