Roscommon County Council has agreed to lease lands to Castlerea Musical Society.
At the June meeting of the council, director of finance Sean Mullarkey informed councillors that 0.0605 hectares of the Castlerea Demesne was proposed to be leased to the trustees of the Castlerea Musical Society. The consideration would be €1 per annum and the term would be for 25 years.
Independent Ireland councillor Nigel Dineen proposed the matter, and it was seconded by Cllr Paschal Fitzmaurice.
“I am delighted to see these lands being leased to Castlerea Musical Society. It’ll make a great difference to the society. They’ll be able to erect a storage facility there,” Cllr Fitzmaurice said.
He praised the society as a fantastic, multi-award winning group.
Cllr Ruth Conboy also supported the proposal, saying the group had a great reputation.
“The society doesn’t receive a lot of funding or have access to many grant opportunities, so I am delighted that the council is supporting this organisation,” she said. “The society works with young people and gets children involved in the arts, which is a wonderful benefit to Castlerea.”
Cllr Michael Holland agreed, calling the society a fantastic group.
